Day of the Week

Find the weekday for any date, plus day of the year and week number.

In short

The day of the week for any date is fixed by the Gregorian calendar. Enter a date, past or future, and this calculator returns the exact weekday, plus the day of the year, the ISO week number, whether it is a weekend, and how long ago or ahead the date is.

Day of the Week

Which weekday is it?

What day of the week is any date?

Enter any date — past or future — and the day of the week calculator tells you which weekday it falls on. It also shows the day of the year, the ISO week number, whether it’s a weekend, and how long ago or how far ahead the date is from today.

It’s handy for finding the weekday you were born, checking which day a future deadline or event lands on, planning around weekends, or settling a “what day was it?” question. Every result uses the real Gregorian calendar, so leap years and month lengths are always correct.

Good to know: ISO week numbers run 1–53 and treat Monday as the first day of the week, which is why early-January and late-December dates sometimes belong to a neighbouring year’s week count.

The trick behind weekdays

Working out a weekday by hand relies on the Doomsday rule or similar mental algorithms, but they’re fiddly and easy to slip up on across century boundaries. Letting the calendar do it is instant and exact for any year. To learn the story behind your own birth day, see our guide on what day of the week you were born on.

FAQ

Common questions

What day of the week was I born on?
Enter your date of birth and the calculator shows the exact weekday, along with the day of the year and week number for that date.
Does it work for future dates?
Yes. Any valid date, past or future, returns its weekday — useful for checking which day an upcoming deadline, birthday or event falls on.
What is the ISO week number?
The ISO week number (1–53) counts weeks starting on Monday. Because of how the standard defines the first week, dates in early January or late December can fall in a neighbouring year's week.
How is the weekday calculated?
From the real Gregorian calendar, so leap years and varying month lengths are handled automatically and the result is exact for any year. You can also find the ISO week number for any date.
