Exam Age Calculator

Your exact age on the cut-off date, and whether you meet the limit — with category relaxations.

In short

Exam eligibility is judged by your age as on the notification cut-off date, not the day you apply. Enter your date of birth, the cut-off, your target post and category, and this calculator returns your exact age and whether you meet the limit once relaxations (OBC, SC/ST, PwBD) apply.

Exam Eligibility

Age as on cut-off date

Quick set:

Are you eligible? Age as on the cut-off date

Indian government and bank recruitment exams set the age limit as your age “as on” a fixed cut-off date — usually 1 January or 1 August of the recruitment year — not the day you apply. This calculator works out your exact age on that date and tells you whether you fall inside the allowed range for your post once category relaxations are applied.

Pick your date of birth, set the cut-off with the quick presets or a custom date, choose the post you’re targeting and your reservation category. You’ll get your precise age in years, months and days, the effective age band after relaxation, and a clear eligible / not-eligible verdict.

Standard relaxations: OBC (non-creamy layer) +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, and PwBD +10 / +13 / +15 years depending on category. Some posts and cycles carry extra relaxations — always read the official notification.

How the limits work

Most posts have both a minimum and a maximum age. You must have reached the minimum age and not crossed the maximum (base limit plus any relaxation) on the cut-off date, measured exactly to the day. Being even one month over the maximum makes you ineligible, which is why an exact calculation matters. If your target exam isn’t listed, choose “custom limits” and enter the minimum and maximum yourself.

FAQ

Common questions

What does “age as on” mean in exam notifications?
It means your age is measured on a fixed cut-off date set in the notification — commonly 1 January or 1 August of the recruitment year — regardless of when you actually fill in the form.
How are category age relaxations applied?
Relaxation is added to the upper age limit: OBC (non-creamy layer) +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, and PwBD +10/+13/+15 years. The calculator adds your category relaxation to the post's base maximum automatically.
My age is 28 years and 1 month. Am I eligible for a 28-year limit?
No. If the maximum is 28 years, you must be 28 years, 0 months, 0 days or younger on the cut-off date. Being over by even a month makes you ineligible for the General category, though a relaxation may still apply.
Is this calculator official?
No. It uses standard age limits and relaxation rules to give a quick estimate. Specific recruitment cycles can have unique cut-offs or extra relaxations, so always verify against the official notification PDF. For specific exams, see the UPSC and government job age calculators.
