Reverse Age Calculator

Turn an age into a birth year, or a birth year into an age.

In short

To find your birth year from your age, subtract your age from the current year, allowing for whether your birthday has passed. Enter your age and a reference date and this calculator returns the two possible birth years and the exact birth-date range, or works the other way from a birth year.

Reverse Age

Age to birth year, and back

Work backwards from an age

The reverse age calculator turns an age into a birth date, or a birth year into an age. Enter how old you are and it tells you which year you were born and the exact date window that produces that age; enter a birth year and it tells you how old you are now and later this year. It’s the quick way to fill in a form, verify an age from a birth year, or check a milestone.

Because a single age spans a twelve-month window, the calculator shows the two possible birth years — one if your birthday has already happened this year, and one if it hasn’t — along with the precise range of birth dates that matches.

Example: Someone who is 30 as of today was born either in the year 30 years ago (if their birthday has passed) or 31 years ago (if it hasn’t) — the tool shows both and the exact date range.

Age to birth year, and back

In “age → birth year” mode you can also add a number of months for a tighter estimate of the birth date. In “birth year → age” mode, enter a year (or a full date) to see the age reached this year. For the reasoning behind these, our guide on how old am I if I was born in a given year walks through the edge cases.

FAQ

Common questions

What year was I born if I am a certain age?
Enter your age and a reference date. The calculator shows the two possible birth years — one if your birthday has already occurred this year and one if it hasn't — plus the exact range of birth dates.
Why does it show two possible birth years?
A single age covers a full twelve-month window. Without your birthday you can't know which side of it today falls on, so both candidate years are shown; add a month value for a tighter estimate.
Can I find my age from just my birth year?
Yes. Switch to “birth year → find my age”, enter the year, and it shows the age you reach during this year and your current age if a full date is given. For your exact age from a full birth date, use the age calculator.
Is the birth date exact?
From age in whole years it gives a date range rather than a single day. Add the extra months, or use a known birth year, to narrow it down.
